Apple TV's beloved sports sitcom, Ted Lasso, is a popular show that has received critical acclaim from fans.
The story follows a football coach, Ted, who is hired to coach an English Premier League soccer team, AFC Richmond. Rebecca Wilton hires Ted in hopes that his inexperience in soccer will lead to the team's downfall, thus devastating her ex-husband, Rupert. However, his leadership skills prove to be triumphant for the team.
The show is primarily shot in Richmond, London. Let's take a look at some of Ted Lasso's iconic filming locations.
Richmond in London was the primary filming location for Ted Lasso
The comedy show was primarily shot in Richmond, a town eight miles southwest of London, where many streets and iconic spots can be seen on the show. Let's have a look at some of these spots.
1) Richmond Green is the famous park Ted commutes to the stadium from
This 12-acre park is surrounded by historic townhouses, Richmond Palace, and the theater. It serves as one of the main locations and backdrops for many scenes of the show.
Ted's morning walks with Sharon Fieldstone take place in this beautiful park. The location also reminisces some iconic scenes from the shows, like Fieldstone's accident, Roy Kent's coaching endeavors, and Ted's daily commute to and from the stadium.
2) The Crown & Anchor Pub is actually The Prince's Head
Brendan Hunt, who plays Coach Beard and serves as one of the show's executive producers, liked the atmosphere of Richmond when shooting for Ted Lasso.
The Crown & Anchor Pub from the show is actually a 300-year-old pub. The Prince's Head in Richmond. The show's cast often hangs out after shooting at this pub, which has become very popular thanks to the show's cast.
Since the pub is a staple location in the show, the cast found its way back to the pub, and it soon became a favorite hangout place. While shooting the scenes on weekdays was easy, it got considerably crowded on the weekends. In an interview with People Magazine, Hunt recalled that,
"The Prince's Head just seemed like a perfect English bar..."It [the pub] has a Ted Lasso shrine in the back now that our production designer Paul Chris put together and it's pretty cool."
3) Exploring Ted's street in Paved Court and flat no. 9½
Just steps outside The Prince's Head is the Paved Court, Ted's street, where viewers see his flat number 9½ on the door. In real life, the flat number is actually 11A. The street is quite popular for its mom-and-pop shops.
The quintessential alleyways and the houses surrounding it gave the place a warm feel, which the makers wanted for Lasso's residence. In an interview with People Magazine, Hunt described what it was like to shoot on a busy road,
"We didn't really feel it until season three, but we'd show up and there'd be 20 or 30 people, But everyone is very polite. And it's a public place, they're welcome to it."
4) Ted and Beard's go-to takeaway spot is Chango Empanadas
Ted and Coach Beard often enjoy empanadas from a takeaway spot just outside Ted's front door. This spot is an Argentinian cafe on Paved Court called Chango Empanadas.
The cafe is a cast favorite, and their pastry pockets stuffed with beef, goat cheese, pumpkin, and chicken soon found a place in the storyline. The scrumptious food we see the characters enjoy on-screen was actually included courtesy of this cafe, which served lip-smacking empanadas, according to the cast.
Looks like Hunt had another favorite eating spot just outside of this cafe.
"You don't really see it in the show, but there's an Italian restaurant called L'assaggino and it's my favorite restaurant in Richmond. It's a really authentic place."
5) Ted Lasso's Home Ground
Nelson Road is actually Selhurst Park; while the practice stadium was SkyEx Community Stadium, which had no restrictions for Ted Lasso's crew, Selhurst Park had a few restrictions.
While SkyEx didn't have any rules for the show's cast, Hunt recalled that almost every Premier League stadium had some clause or another, making it difficult for the production to find the final suitable filming location. He added during an interview with People Magazine,
"Every single Premier League stadium we visited [they told us], 'Do anything you want, but if any one person sets one foot on this pristine, beautiful Premier League pitch, you're all gone.'"
The team managed to digitally alter the background to keep the feel of the show intact.
