'First Issue Is Preventing Violence Against Medical Professional': Member of National Task Force

On the Supreme Court ordering the formation of the National Task Force, the Chairman & Head Institute of Surgical Gastroenterology, SGRH, and member of the National Task Force, Dr Saumitra Rawat said, “I think we will work in two different areas, it has been told to us by the CJI – the first issue is preventing violence against medical professional, second is to draft a national protocol for dignified and safe working for the doctors, nurses and all the paramedical staffs. We have been told to give interim guidelines within three weeks and final guidelines in two months…”

Parents of the trainee doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, have detailed before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) their suspicion about the former principal of the college, Sandip Ghosh, and his top associates, including the medical superintendent and the assistant superintendent.

Speaking to CNN-News18, the father of the victim said, “We have complained against the principal, the MSVP, the super…we have told the CBI about our suspicion about each one of them.”

Hours before the hearing begins in Supreme Court in the Kolkata rape and murder case, the West Bengal government has filed a complaint against former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh stating that the departmental inquiry found ‘criminal nexus’ between Ghosh and ‘certain unscrupulous contractors’ and ‘collusive bidding’ for several works in the hospital premises.

Some of the allegations even date back to April 2022, when Ghosh, the former principal has been accused of ‘showing evidence of obtainment of work orders despite not having proper licences, ineligibility to participate in tender and quotation process’.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers investigating the rape and murder of a woman doctor of state-run R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, are now tracking the details of the past antecedents of crime against women of the sole arrested accused in the case, Sanjay Roy.

Sources said during the investigation, the sleuths have come across information about several instances of Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer, harassing or sexually abusing women. However, no case was launched or action initiated against him.

The investigating officials are trying to track the godfathers of Roy, whose patronage stopped any sort of disciplinary action against him in such cases, as a result of which he became so arrogant. There are also records of Roy remaining in an intoxicated state while on duty.
